Ritual slaughter

Animal Protection Act is states that animals have to be stunned before being killed even in the case of ritual slaughter (Article 25). The ritual slaughter of animals, as understood by some Muslims and Jews, is thus prohibited. The Constitutional Court has approved this provision in a decision initiated by the minor Muslim Community of Slovenia in 2018 (CC: U-I-140/14). According to the Constitutional Court, infliction of unnecessary pain to the animals was avoided in this way, while Muslims are still able to get meat which suits their standards, for example by importing it.
