Appartenance et démographie religieuses

The grand, overarching trend in religious demography in Norway is that the Church of Norway is gradually losing its members. From a membership encompassing 94% of the population in 1970, reduced to 65% in 2022, the church has lost members both to the growing group of religiously unaffiliated, which currently stands at 20%, and to membership in other faith communities, which make up 15%. Simultaneously, the belief in God has gradually diminished : surveys measuring whether people believe in God started in 1985, and in 2016, the number of non-believers surpassed for the first time the believers, with 39% against 37%, and 23% undecided.
