Legally accepted religious marriages
In Latvia, the Article 51 of the Civil Law gives eight religious organizations (churches) the right to issue a notification of marriage. Marriages with legal effect can be registered by Evangelical Lutherans, Roman Catholics, Orthodox Christians, Old Believers, Baptists, Methodists, Seventh-day Adventists and Jews.
